Expats in Business

Setting up a business, even in one’s native country, can be exciting as well as daunting and the entrepreneur’s journey in itself offers its own set of rewards as well as challenges. However, as an Expat entrepreneur, navigating the foreign bureaucratic red tape & regulations can be almost impossible when you’re first starting out, especially if you don’t speak the language well enough yet to comprehend all the technical terms of legal contracts and other important documents etc. Sadly, many new Expats to NL are unaware of initiatives & support programs available to people starting a new business and end up experiencing additional stress and feelings of isolation when trying to launch their businesses in a new country.

That’s why finding the right networks to support Expat entrepreneurs is vital to giving them every chance of success. Expat Directory was created to help Expats living in The Netherlands find the “Expat friendly” products & services they’re looking for when they need it and where they need it. By connecting people to each other, our aim is to help our Expat community succeed and grow.  We believe it’s about building bridges rather than putting up walls.

Meet our guest contributors:

Julie Taylor is Founder & “Queen Bee” at Buzz Business Networking, based in Leiden but working to connect Expat entrepreneurs all over NL by using her own experience –

“From starting a business in The Netherlands as an expat back in 2019 it was hard to get the right answers and other business owners that were going through the same challenges.
Where do you find information, support, and recommendations without a network?

Over time, from attending events, asking questions, requesting help, and reaching out to people, I started to build a network of people that have provided invaluable support and has opened up many opportunities.

I love getting to know people, their stories, and challenges, helping them by ‘connecting the dots’ through connections and collaborations”.
