Our school has traveled a very long way indeed since it opened its doors in 1964 to a small handful of students. Today, ISA is recognised in the Netherlands, Europe and across the globe as a leader in international education. We are committed to ensuring that ISA will continue to carry the torch of excellence in international education.
I want to encourage our new families and friends to join us in the always challenging and always exciting journey that awaits us in the years ahead.
Dr. Bernadette Carmody
ISA Director
The International School of Amsterdam is a private international school located in the city of Amstelveen, over 11 kilometres away from the city centre of Amsterdam. It hosts students from over 65 countries from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. The official language and language of instruction of the school is English.
The International School of Amsterdam, founded in 1964, continues to be a leader in education for international understanding – inspiring our diverse community of students to learn and live with purpose.
ISA was the first school in the world to offer all three core IB programmes, and it continues to do so today.
Our challenging academic curriculum embraces global perspectives and respects the identity, experiences and aspirations of individual students.
Our strengths lie within our diverse community, world-class faculty and facilities, innovative teaching practices, and confident, engaged students.
For over 50 years, the International School of Amsterdam has been a leader in providing education for international understanding.
We offer an internationally accredited programme that provides students from ages two to eighteen with a student-centered curriculum which recognises diverse learning styles, preferences and individual needs. By integrating traditional academic subjects with the latest methodologies and technologies, we are able to move beyond conventional classroom teaching to ensure our students meet their full potential on the path to lifelong learning.
ISA was the first school in the world authorised to teach a complete IB curriculum, which is taught at more than 3,900 schools in over 140 countries. The IB organisation offers diploma and certificate programmes – global symbols of academic integrity and intellectual promise.
Our curriculum is firmly grounded on the principles of the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) three programmes—the Primary Years (ages 3-11), the Middle Years (ages 11-16) and the Diploma Years programmes (16-18), allowing our students to benefit from a continuum of education from pre-school through highschool, while also offering flexibility to best reflect the particular needs of our internationally-mobile students.
We are an international community of learners, comprised of students, faculty and staff from over 52 countries. Our small student-teacher ratios provide a safe environment for students to become fully engaged in learning and inquiry, growing both intellectually and emotionally.
