One thing we can’t really get enough of is visiting a great cheese shop and getting lost in their huge variety of cheeses we have yet to try and this time: Fromagerie Kef
You can smell the cheese from outside the shop standing on the sidewalk and as soon as you enter the shop – BOOM – You’re in cheese-land!
Before we dive into what we got just for you to know you can also find there – spreads, wine, chutneys, bread and other deli goodies.
A small chat with the owner exposed us to the history of this shop opened by Abraham Kef in the 50’s. He loved cheese and the cheese culture and was the first one who introduced french cheese to the dutch. Till then Gauda cheese was super dominant and french cheese still wasn’t popular here back then. He taught people about it – what’s the right order to eat it, at what temperature and what wine is best to drink with every cheese. We kinda got the same experience when asking questions about the cheese we bought. Nowadays many restaurants purchase their cheese here and they are usually very proud to do so and even mentions that in their menu -”Cheese from Kef”.
So what did we get?
Poire De St. vrain – French
The first blue cheese that was introduced here in the Netherlands, it doesn’t look like blue cheese but it is and it tasted amazing!
Petit Fiance – French
Mild and creamy goat cheese.
Merlijn – Belgian
White, soft and creamy goat cheese.
We also got a Rhubarb chutney which was soooo good!

A must visit place!
